Tomball ISD projects are getting underway from the district’s $494.46 million bond package voters approved in November, although many of the projects are in the early stages. Bond funds were allocated for two elementary schools, an intermediate school, a high school, campus renovations, a new bus facility, relocating Tomball Star Academy and renovating the former BJ Services Headquarters—renamed as the Tomball Innovation Center—among other projects and infrastructure upgrades.

District officials said in an Aug. 4 email to Community Impact Newspaper that few updates to the status of bond-funded projects were available, as all new campuses are in the planning phase.

Tomball Star Academy relocation

Renovations are underway at the Tomball Innovation Center to house the district’s early college high school, Tomball Star Academy, that will relocate from Tomball High School on Quinn Road to the Innovation Center at Hufsmith-Kohrville Road and FM 2920. The Innovation Center was the previous headquarters of BJ Services, which TISD purchased in 2021. At an April 12 meeting, trustees selected ICI Construction to renovate two buildings at the Innovation Center for the new Tomball Star Academy location at a cost of $7.86 million. District officials said in an early August email that work was moving quickly for the completion of the relocation, but issues with delivery of materials has delayed the project. The district did not provide a relocation timeline for Tomball Star Academy as of press time Aug. 24.
