Magnolia ISD announced May 4 that graduation ceremonies for the class of 2020 have been pushed to June 29 following Gov. Greg Abbott's announcement of a phased reopening plan for the state.

Graduation ceremonies were previously scheduled for May 23 and then delayed to May 30 following the coronavirus pandemic, causing schools to be closed through the rest of the 2019-20 school year.

The district's graduation ceremonies are now set for June 29 at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion for Magnolia and Magnolia West high schools. ALPHA Academy graduation is set for June 24 at the Magnolia Event Center.

An alternate date is set for July 20 for Magnolia and Magnolia West high schools and for July 15 for ALPHA Academy, should large gatherings still not be permitted by the county or state in June.

Caps and gowns will be distributed the week prior to graduation, according to district information.

Based on when graduation takes place—either June 29 or July 20—prom dates will precede the graduation ceremonies earlier in the month, according to district information. Magnolia High School's prom is currently set for June 26 at the Magnolia Event Center, with Magnolia West High School's on June 27 under the district's current plan for a June 29 graduation, according to district information.
