“[Customers] originally thought I would expand Fire Ant and so I thought of putting together a pizza place instead,” Kissinger said.
What to expect
At Sylvia’s Pizza, new customers can expect an Italian-themed restaurant with Italian-style dishes including pizza, salads, sandwiches and Italian appetizers.
The eatery is split into two sections consisting of an indoor patio with exposed windows and an indoor seating area on the other side of the patio, however, both sections are weather-controlled.
“If it's hot, we still have AC out here and if it's cold, we can turn the heat on,” Kissinger said. “So it just gave a little uniqueness to this patio.”
The pizza restaurant offers lunch specials Tuesday-Friday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., 10% off on Family Night Sundays and kids eat free on Tuesdays. From the oven
Kissinger said Sylvia’s Pizza is known for its gourmet pizzas made with scratch-made dough, scratch-made sauces and ingredients from vendors Ben E. Keith and Chef’s Produce.
The wood fire oven allows the restaurant to serve larger crowds with pizzas baked within five minutes while providing a distinct flavor from regular oven-baked pizzas. With six signature pizzas to choose from, Kissinger said customer favorites include the Royale, made with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, cup-and-char pepperoni and oregano as well as the Amanti Della Carne, made with tomato sauce, mozzarella, prosciutto, homemade fennel sausage, cup-and-char pepperoni and oregano.
The eatery also offers cast iron skillet items including meatballs and lasagna alongside soft drinks, wine and beer from Fire Ant Brewpub.
