After working his way up at a friend’s food delivery business in college, Mitchell Bethea decided to move back to Tomball in 2017 and start his own: Food’s Here.

“The beginning was tricky,” Bethea said. “To get restaurants [to partner], we had to offer it as a free delivery service.”

Unlike other national delivery service providers, Food’s Here is free for restaurants to partner with. Food’s Here charges a flat 18% markup on orders as well as a delivery fee which usually ranges from $1.50-$4.00, depending on the distance, and is paid for by the customer, Bethea said.

The small nature of Food’s Here also allows the business to be more transparent, he said.

“We are locally owned and operated, and there is a face to the company,” he said. “There is a person you can talk to unlike the big corporate [delivery services].”

Food’s Here works with approximately 75 restaurants in Tomball, Magnolia and Brenham. The business expanded to Brenham in August 2019, Bethea said.

He said partnering with Food’s Here is as simple as restaurants reaching out. Additionally, Bethea said there is no contract that ties companies to using only Food’s Here, and they can opt out whenever they choose.

Customers can use Food’s Here by downloading the app or ordering through its website. Food’s Here delivers within 12 miles from any partnering restaurant, Bethea said.

Since dine-in restrictions were implemented in Harris and Montgomery counties in mid-March amid the coronavirus outbreak, Food’s Here has seen an uptick in restaurants signing up, Bethea said.

“I’ve probably signed at least 10 restaurants [this past week] because people are jumping on board [for] delivery,” he said March 25.

Prior to dine-in restrictions, Bethea had hired more drivers in anticipation of restaurants only being able to offer to-go and delivery orders, he said in a March 17 interview.

However, Bethea said that as of March 25, 5% of the restaurants Food’s Here works with have closed temporarily to wait and see how things change as the state grapples with the coronavirus outbreak.

“The general feeling is they are going to fight through this,” he said.
