Louie’s Together Playground is an inclusive playground for children of all abilities, and was inspired by Tomball resident and Chick-fil-A franchisee Brad Munson’s son Louie, who has dwarfism, Community Impact previously reported.
“Tomball is so proud to have this playground here in our city,” Mayor Lori Klein Quinn said during the opening ceremony. “It gives more recreational opportunities for everyone to come together and play.”
In a nutshell
The city of Tomball partnered with the Tomball Economic Development Corp., the Munson family and community donors to create Louie’s Together Playground, Quinn said during the opening ceremony.
The playground features a construction theme, as Louie loves construction, according to the city’s website. Public Works Director Drew Huffman also said the playground was modeled after the playground in The Able Fables book “Louie’s Together Playground,” which was written after author Nichole Julia heard about Louie, according to the city’s website.
“This is an amazing playground to be able to have ... in the Tomball area,” Huffman said. “Especially right here, in the city of Tomball.”
During the opening, Brad Munson said he is super proud of the playground.
“[I] just cannot wait to watch kids play,” Munson said.
How we got here
The effort to create Louie’s Together Playground began in 2021, with the city breaking ground this past July, Community Impact previously reported.
What they’re saying
- “This playground came out of a children’s book,” Huffman said. “So we got to bring this to life.”
- “What this really signifies is a place where inclusion, community and joy intersect, and of course, it’s in Tomball,” TEDC Executive Director Kelly Violette said at the opening ceremony. “It really is a shining example of what we can do when we come together with a shared vision, and lots of heart.”
