Construction has begun on Phase 1 of Tomball’s alley improvement project, which aims to improve the alleyways to be more walkable and add an additional public restroom to downtown Tomball.

The city’s portion of the project—which includes paving, utility relocations, communication and electrical conduits, dumpster pads, and the additional public restroom—is estimated to be completed in spring 2024, Assistant City Manager Jessica Rogers said in an email.

The Tomball Economic Development Corp. will be in charge of the beautification elements of the project, Community Impact previously reported.

In a nutshell

Phase 1 of the project involves the 100 north and south blocks as well as the 200 north block of downtown Tomball, according to the city’s website. The project has been in the works since at least last year.

What else?

Included as part of Phase 1, a pocket park is set to come to the corner of North Cherry and Commerce streets and will include the additional public restroom, according to previous reporting. The only public restrooms are located at the Historic Tomball Depot Plaza.

The initial design plan for the pocket park includes a raised deck with seating, artificial turf and a turf play mound, according to renderings provided by the TEDC.

Also of note

There are now signs around the free parking lots near First Baptist Church, which the TEDC purchased in April, Community Impact previously reported.
