After incumbent John Bramlett took the lead following the release of early voting totals, Matthew "Doc" Dantzer, candidate and current Position 1 council member, won the race for Magnolia City Council Position 2 thanks to election day votes—by just one vote.

With 100% of election day precincts reporting, Dantzer had 104 votes, while Bramlett had 103 votes, according to Montgomery County election results. Bramlett could not be reached on election night, and it is unknown if he will request a recount.

"Two years ago when I got into this, I came into it relatively green, and there's definitely a learning process. Knowing what I know now versus what I knew then will allow me to serve the residents better," Dantzer said Saturday night.

Dantzer said the biggest issues facing the city at this point are water rates and perceived water quality, which he aims to address in his next term.

"I'll be going into this with a better knowledge base, and because I have a relationship with the developers and the members of the city, we'll be able to come up with better solutions," he said.

Incumbent Richard Carby also won against candidate Jon O'Der by more than double the votes, totaling 128 votes for Carby and 62 for O'Der.

Carby said his main issues of focus for his next term are infrastructure and transportation, since those will be major players into the landscape of the city for the next two years.

"With more people, that means more businesses, which means we'll need to adjust our roads and our developments accordingly. People just want to get to and from work without the traffic congestion," Carby said.

All election results are unofficial until canvassed.
