While practicing social distancing, here is a list of resources hosted by Tomball and Magnolia area entities to explore as a family, from low-cost martial arts classes to story times with library staff.




  1. Art Time with Rachel

    Mercy House Global, a nonprofit organization based in Magnolia, hosts a weekly lesson every Wednesday at 4 p.m. for children of all ages. Guests can follow along on social media or access the video afterward on YouTube. Check out the first lesson here.

  2. Storytime at Home

    Mercy House Global also presents a virtual story time every Tuesday and Thursday at 4 p.m. Listen to the first story time here.

  3. Shadow Puppet Theatre and Storybook Theatre with Miss Jan

    Although it will remain closed until mid-April, The Woodlands Children’s Museum is providing recorded videos of Miss Jan reading, singing and interacting with puppets. Find recorded videos here.

  4. The Way Family Dojo

    The Magnolia martial arts academy offers virtual martial arts and cage fitness classes for $5 per class, according to the business’s Facebook page, with other promotions available.

  5. Global Martial Arts


    The Tomball martial arts academy is offering a free online kids fitness class and a teen and adult fitness class April 4 via Zoom at 10 and 11 a.m., respectively. Learn more about how to log in to the classes online for children and adults.

  6. Lone Star College—Tomball Community Library

    Although it will remain closed through May 3, the Tomball library is offering a variety of virtual programming, including online workshops, the Choo Choo Club-Express and story times. Virtual programs are available on the library’s Facebook page with a weekly schedule posted.

  7. Harris County Public Library

    Harris County Public Library has a number of videos available on its YouTube channel regarding story times and how-to videos. The library also offers ebooks, audiobooks, graphic novels, class films and picture books online for patrons to enjoy amid the library closures. Residents without a library card can apply for a digital library card here to access library resources.

  8. Houston Zoo

    The Houston Zoo hosts a Facebook live session at 11 a.m. each weekday to share about the zoo and its animals amid the temporary closures. Access the series here.
