Ongoing projects

1. Grogans Mill Road and Research Forest Drive turn lane construction

Turn lane improvements at Research Forest Drive and Grogans Mill Road have extended the westbound acceleration lane from southbound Grogans Mill to westbound Research Forest as well as the westbound Research Forest lane to northbound Grogans Mill. Engineer John Bleyl said Entergy utility pole relocation at the site was completed and work on the eastbound deceleration lane would resume. Bleyl said it would be a 60-day project potentially starting in mid-November.

The project is being managed by Montgomery County Precinct 2.

Timeline: January 2023-January 2024

2. Grogans Mill left-turn lane extension

Montgomery County Precinct 3 is working with contractor Teamwork Construction to extend the northbound Grogans Mill Road left-turn lane at North Millbend Drive. The project began in early October and was expected to be completed within several weeks, according to a Precinct 3 news release. It will provide additional turn-lane storage at the intersection to help reduce traffic congestion during peak hours, according to the release.

3. David Memorial Drive extension


A project to extend David Memorial Drive to Hwy. 242 began in September under the terms of an interlocal agreement between the city of Shenandoah and Montgomery County. The portion of the extension that will cross the Conroe city limits will be completed when funding is secured.

Timeline: September 2023-July 2024

Cost: $7.8 million

4. Hwy. 242 widening

TxDOT will use existing right of way on Hwy. 242 between FM 1488 and I-45 to widen lanes and restripe the intersections. The project will also include construction of detention ponds. The project was slated to begin in October, according to TxDOT.

Timeline: October-first quarter 2026

Cost: $28.67 million

5. Robinson Road realignment

The project bid to align Robinson Road across Hanna Road was awarded by Oak Ridge North on Oct. 9, and work could start in February, City Manager Heather Neeley said.

Timeline: February 2024-late 2024

6. Drainage improvements on Research Forest Drive

Montgomery County Precinct 3 repaired a portion of Research Forest Drive near New Trails Drive where infrastructure damage occurred due to cracking and separation from erosion. The crew repaired the underground pipe, stabilized the area and repoured concrete, according to a Precinct 3 news release. The work was performed during normal working hours with minimal cost for cement-stabilized sand and quick concrete bags, according to Precinct 3.
