Montgomery County Precinct 3 awarded the bid for a project to widen Rayford Road to D&W Contractors for $2.88 million.
The project will widen Rayford to four lanes between an area 40 feet east of Waterbend Cove to approximately 400 feet east of Birnham Woods Drive.
The proposed work includes creating a new roadway on the south side of current Rayford lanes to create two new eastbound travel lanes from Waterbend Cove to the intersection with Birnham Woods. The existing road will serve as the westbound lanes, Precinct 3 officials said.
The project will also include building a bridge for eastbound Rayford traffic east of Spring Trails Park Drive.
Other work includes a traffic signal at the intersection of Rayford and Birnham Woods as well as widening Birnham Woods to four lanes on either side of Rayford. Left-turn lanes will be present at each side of the intersection, officials said.
Construction on the project will begin in mid-October and will last 360 calendar days, according to Precinct 3 officials.
