The Building Hope Gala, the 12th gala event held by the organization, took place May 3 with a Kentucky Derby theme. About 600 guests attended and participated in silent and live auctions, raffles and other events to help raise money. The $1 million raised is the largest amount raised in the event's history, officials said.
The inspiration
Habitat MCTX works to build safe, affordable homes and expand initiatives such as critical home repairs, Veterans Build, and Aging in Place across Montgomery County, according to a news release. On average, it costs the organization $120,000 to build a home.
The event was chaired by Tina Rivera, owner of Arc Electric and Lighting, and Kim Soderberg, a Realtor with Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate-Gary Greene. Wayne and Deborah Austin were this year’s honorees for their commitment to the organization.
Habitat MCTX celebrated 35 years in 2024.
The nonprofit will begin building homes in its next neighborhood, Marble Creek, in Magnolia in 2026, according to a news release.
What they’re saying
“This milestone is more than a number—it’s a sign of momentum, of what’s possible when a community rallies together,” Habitat MCTX Executive Director Vicki Johnson said in a news release. “We’re deeply thankful to everyone who made this night such a success. With this support, we can continue expanding our reach and building brighter futures.”
