Hines acquires over 1.5K acres of land in League City

Real estate firm Hines has acquired over 1,500 acres of undeveloped land on League City's west side, according to an Oct. 27 news release from the firm.

The site will be developed into a master-planned community with:
  • 2,730 single-family lots
  • Commercial parcels
  • 26-acre future school site within Clear Creek ISD

Gov. Abbott launches reelection bid, vows to end school property taxes


Gov. Greg Abbott announced his bid for a fourth gubernatorial term Nov. 9, laying out an ambitious six-pronged plan to make “out-of-control property taxes finished in Texas.” His goals include eliminating property taxes charged by public school districts, which make up the majority of an average homeowner’s property tax bill.

“It’s time to drive a stake through the heart of local property tax hikes for good,” Abbott told supporters during a Nov. 9 campaign event at East River 9 golf course in Houston.

Cy-Fair ISD to launch virtual learning programs starting fall 2026


Cy-Fair ISD will offer three virtual learning options to students in fourth and fifth grade and ninth through 12th grade for the 2026-27 academic year, according to a Nov. 6 presentation to the board of trustees.

Virtual Pathways Director Meredith Akers said the district developed the program after conducting a survey that indicated almost 40% of parents were interested in a flexible online learning opportunity.

Cy-Fair ISD narrows 2025 deficit by more than $16 million, report finds


Cy-Fair ISD concluded fiscal year 2024-25 with a smaller budget deficit than initially projected, according to a Nov. 6 financial accountability presentation to the board of trustees.

In June, CFISD officials projected the district’s budget shortfall for FY 2024-25 at approximately $24 million, according to Community Impact’s budget reporting from earlier this year.

However, a Nov. 6 presentation of the district’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report shows CFISD spent approximately $27.6 million more than it brought in last fiscal year.
