What to know
The groundbreaking marked the beginning of Phase 1 of the 60,000-square-foot, $6 million Plaza District. According to information from the city, the Plaza District will feature restaurants with patios overlooking the green space.
The Plaza District commercial zone was established in 2013 for Town Center development in the city, as previously reported by Community Impact.
What they're saying
“When I first started, I thought we’d be standing here with a shovel in hand in about two years ... but the thing is that I would have to say that patience makes the payoff sweeter,” Keenon Raynor, co-founder of Identity Architects, said.
The Plaza District will be a redeveloped area along the intersection of Robinson and Hanna roads, and it will include multiple retail centers, a new city hall and professional offices, as previously reported by Community Impact.
“The Plaza district is more than a project. It is the heart of our city, where restaurants, shops, businesses, walking spaces and open areas all connect us. It’s where Oak Ridge North shows who we are, a community with the hometown feel, yet with the vision to grow and prosper,” Mayor Paul Bond said.
Next steps
An announcement of what businesses are planned for Phase 1 will soon be announced, according to Identity Architects officials.
