What to know
A Public Safety Partner Video was released featuring multiple partner agencies and has been distributed across social media and website channels, township Director of Communications LeaAnn Petersen said.
The campaign has been posted regularly on township social media posts and reels scheduled every Monday and Friday to reach varied audiences, Petersen said. The plan runs through December, with a comprehensive campaign report to be provided in January, Petersen said.
Petersen presented an update of incidents involving e-vehicles and calls to The Woodlands Fire Department since July. According to Petersen, 87.35% of incidents involved people not wearing helmets, and 43.8% involved individuals ages 13-19.
“In the month of July, the majority of the incidents were with a regular bicycle, but in the month of August, the majority of incidents were on electric devices,” Petersen said.
How we got here
A study on the use and safety of e-bikes and scooters in The Woodlands was completed by Halff Associates and presented to the township board of directors June 19, as previously reported by Community Impact.
The first phase of an education plan proposed July 17 included conducting focus groups, creating digital media and safety infographics and drafting permanent signage.
