With 2025 halfway through, several projects in The Woodlands area are underway or nearing completion, local officials said.

1. The Woodlands Fire Station No. 5

Project: The Woodlands Township is constructing a new fire station to replace the original Fire Station No. 5. This follows a number of issues surrounding the old building's condition as part of a $14.5 million package for fire department improvements, according to previous Community Impact reporting. The station is set to have 23,000 square feet of space, which will house the fire department and members of the Montgomery County Hospital District.

Update: According to township officials the fire station will be "substantially completed" by the end of the year, and is expected to open in mid-January 2026.

2. The Woodlands Emergency Training Center


Project: The Woodlands Township will fund improvements to the fire department's Emergency Training Center as part of the $14.5 million project to rebuild Fire Station No. 5. The improvements include additional shower and bathroom space, expanding the clean burn space and additional structural improvements.

Update: According to township staff, renovations to the Emergency Training Center have been completed as of June 1.

3. Alden Bridge Sports Park

Project: The Woodlands Township will begin phase one of a $17.8 million project to remodel the Alden Bridge Sports Park, which will include the conversion of a small grass field to the park's “championship field” with all-weather turf, bleachers and scoreboard. The improvements will also include 224 additional parking spaces, several new grass fields and a restroom facility.

Update: The township will work with the Texas Department of Transportation to install an additional traffic light on Hwy. 242, and is beginning work in July, officials said.

4. 50th anniversary statue

Project: A "First Fifty" anniversary sculpture has been proposed to be placed in the roadway median at the intersection of Woodlands Parkway and Grogans Mill Road to pay homage to all eight villages in The Woodlands.

Update: $1.2 million is budgeted for the project, and work is underway at the intersection. According to the Precinct 3 Commissioner’s Office, there will be daily intermittent lane closures as work continues.

5. Water Fountain at Waterway Square

Project: The Woodlands Township board of directors identified a renovation of the water fountain at Waterway Square as a key budget priority for 2025 during last August's budget workshops, allocating an estimated $3.5 million for a remodel of the fountain.


Update: The township board will evaluate the design and construction of the fountain at a future board meeting.
