The Woodlands Road Utility District and The Woodlands Township announced the kickoff of a $4.5 million enhancement project at the intersection of Woodlands Parkway and Grogans Mill Road, which will include the installation of a sculpture commemorating the first 50 years of The Woodlands.

What residents need to know

Funded in full by The Woodlands RUD, the project will provide new landscaping across 8 acres of land surrounding the intersection of Woodlands Parkway and Grogans Mill Road. The landscape improvements will include:
  • 423 additional trees
  • Stone planter walls
  • Ornamental foliage
  • Additional lighting
According to information provided by Landology, the design firm overseeing the project, it will also address soil erosion along medians and right of ways at the intersection. According to Landology, the project had started work as of April 1, and the company anticipates completing work by December.

The improvement project will also include the construction of the township's "First Fifty" structure, which will commemorate 50 years of The Woodlands, and it is being funded by a partnership between Howard Hughes, The Woodlands Township and the Town Center Owners Association according to prior Community Impact reporting.

The impact

During construction work, the township advised all pathway crossovers located at the intersection of Grogans Mill and Woodlands Parkway will be closed to ensure resident safety. However, a detour route is available for residents who still wish to reach the Town Center area by pathway through North Millbend Drive.
