The process to fill the vacant Position 3 seat on the Shenandoah City Council started June 8 during a city council meeting.

The city council has two options to fill the seat, which became vacant when Mayor John Escoto was elected during the May 7 election. The city council can hold a special election in November or fill the seat by appointment, though there is no strict deadline to do so.

City Administrator Kathie Reyer stated the election would cost the city about $15,000.

Reyer said the people who are interested in seeking the seat would have to apply, and additional information will be provided on the city’s website June 9. The application process will close at 5 p.m. June 16.

Reyer said the applications will be reviewed by the city council before the appointment.
