Shenandoah residents voiced their displeasure with a proposed overpass at the intersection of Research Forest Drive and Grogan’s Mill Road during an Oct. 27 meeting.
The proposed project was discussed previously at The Woodlands Township board of directors meeting Oct. 21, where Chair Gordy Bunch said any future project at the intersection would involve multiple entities including The Woodlands, Shenandoah and Montgomery County Precincts 2 and 3.
Among the speakers during the comment period Oct. 27, Tyson Breedlove, a Grogan's Forest resident in The Woodlands, said he believed the proposed overpass would negatively impact the area.
“I ask .... that all stakeholders’ voices are heard and this is done the right way,” Breedlove said. “I would also like to encourage that fiscal spending be done in a responsible manner. I do not understand why it has to be spent on an overpass for an intersection I go through every day and it only takes a few minutes to get through.”
Shenandoah resident Esther Lum questioned why the project was being brought up again. Community Impact Newspaper previously reported The Woodlands Township denied the request for a letter of support in 2018.
“We strongly object to that,” Lum said.
Shenandoah Mayor Ritch Wheeler said he spoke at The Woodlands Township meeting in regard to the project.
“I was very clear about the fact that Shenandoah residents and businesses are opposed to anything other than an at-grade solution at that intersection,” Wheeler said. “There is currently an at-grade solution on the table thanks to Bleyl Engineering ... if the county so desires to proceed with that project.”
Wheeler said the intersection falls outside of the city limits of Shenandoah.
Shenandoah City Council Member Mike McLeod voiced opposition to the proposed overpass as well and asked for a resolution objecting to the project at a future agenda.
