Shenandoah City Council unanimously voted in favor of extended the local state of disaster to May 13 during a meeting April 22.

According to the declaration, residents and businesses within Shenandoah should follow all current and future guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Gov. Greg Abbott, Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough and Shenandoah Mayor Ritch Wheeler.

Wheeler said the order was revised after Abbott gave his recent reopening orders so the city is on the same page.

"The governor has come out and said, 'If you are more restrictive, then my orders are going to supescede yours,'" Wheeler said. "I don't want to be more restrictive than the governor."

Wheeler clarified that as the declaration is written, the city is allowed flexibility as orders change when the state begins to reopen.
