Datren Williams places a high importance on integrity when making decisions in his role as a trustee on the Conroe ISD board.

“If I think a decision is in the best interest of the kids first, administration second and taxpayers third, I’m fine with [my opinion] being unpopular,” Williams said.

After attending Louisiana State University, where he played on the Tigers football team and earned both a bachelor’s and master’s Williams and his wife, Maya, moved to The Woodlands.

“We’ve been here all of my post-collegiate life, so this is home,” Williams said.

Williams spends his days as the director of corporate finance with EZE Trucking Holdings Inc. but is also involved with the community.

He serves as the second vice president on the Conroe ISD board of trustees and as a board member of the Montgomery County Women’s Center.

“He puts his heart and soul into everything he does,” said Jim Cox, former chairman of the Montgomery County Women’s Center board of directors. In addition Williams coaches youth football and stays active in the lives of his three sons.

“I figured if I was going to be out there at practice anyway, I might as well get involved,” Williams said.

When former CISD Superintendent Gerald Irons asked Williams to take his place on the CISD board, it was a decision Williams weighed heavily.

“It took me a long time to decide if [serving on the CISD board] was something I wanted to do because I knew how much commitment it would involve,” Williams said.

Once Williams commited to serve, he gave the effort his full attention, Cox said.

“[Williams] is very involved in whatever he does, and he gives everything 100 percent effort,” he said.

Williams said Cox was influential in his decision to serve on the board of the Montgomery County Women’s Center, and is the reason why he and Maya attend many ceremonies honoring the women who benefit from the facility.

“I watched how [Williams] immersed himself into the Conroe ISD school board, and I knew he’d be great on the board at the Montgomery County Women’s Center,” Cox said.

Williams said he faced the challenge of serving on the CISD board by visiting the district’s schools, Cox said.

Getting re-elected to the board also has no effect on the decisions he makes as a trustee, he said.

“All means all, and all kids deserve the same level of education in this district,” Williams said.vv
