With the Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas North American Championship set to take place April 26, Ironman, Visit The Woodlands, and The Woodlands Township announced on April 25 the renewal of the partnership for another five years, through 2030.

The backstory

Community Impact previously reported Visit The Woodlands approved the deal in November.

The event consists of:
  • A 2.4-mile, spectator-lined lake swim
  • A 112-mile bike ride on mostly closed roads
  • A 26.2-mile run
Since the event began in 2011, the Ironman Foundation has donated around $1.2 million to the local region, according to the April 25 news release. The event brings in about $15 million in economic impact for The Woodlands, according to the release.

About 2,500 athletes compete alongside professionals to earn qualifying slots for the 2025 World Championship triathlon. This year the men's race will be held Sept. 14 in Nice, France, and the women's race will be held Oct. 11 in Kona, Hawaii.

What they're saying

“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with The Woodlands for another five years,” said Scott Langen, vice president of operations for Ironman in North America. “The Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas North American Championship triathlon holds a special place not only in my heart, but in hearts of this community and the athletes who come year after year to conquer this course."

"The extension of Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas through 2030 is a major win for The Woodlands,” Brad Bailey, chair of The Woodlands Township board of directors, said in the release. “Each year, the event brings thousands of visitors, delivering a strong economic boost to our hotels, restaurants and local businesses."
