Independence Day activities are scheduled throughout the Fourth of July weekend in The Woodlands area. The organizers of one of the area's annual events, the South County Fourth of July Parade Committee, were honored June 22 with a proclamation by The Woodlands Township board of directors for more than 40 years in the community. In addition, the township offered Fourth of July safety tips, including a reminder that fireworks are prohibited in The Woodlands. July 3: See a Star-Spangled Salute

The Woodlands is kicking off a two-day celebration with its Star-Spangled Salute at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. The event will feature the Houston Symphony performing a selection of patriotic favorites. 8 p.m. Free. July 4: Attend a parade in The Woodlands

The South County Fourth of July parade around The Woodlands will feature marching bands, fire engines, clowns and floats. Portions of Lake Robbins Drive, Lake Woodlands Drive and Grogans Mill Road will be closed for the 1.3-mile event. The event begins at Market Street with The Woodlands Concert Band and preparade entertainment at the Town Green Park stage at 8 a.m., and the parade begins at 9 a.m. The parade is led by Grand Marshal U.S. Rep. Kevin Brady, R-The Woodlands, and marching bands participating include those from area high schools, such as The Woodlands High School and College Park High School. 9 a.m. Free. July 4: See a concert after the parade

July 4: Celebrate with music and fireworks

The 25th annual Red, Hot and Blue Festival takes place with various activities and entertainment options throughout The Woodlands. All venues will feature live music beginning at 6 p.m., and activities will include balloon art, face painting and concessions.
