Editor's note: This story was updated Aug. 22 with new information about a candidate withdrawal.

A total of six candidates have filed to run for two of the three available seats on The Woodlands Township board of directors as of the Aug. 18 filing deadline, according to information posted on the township website after 5 p.m.

As of Aug. 22, one candidate, David Swiderski, withdrew from the Position 5 race, meaning that race is now unopposed.

Two-year terms are available for positions 5, 6 and 7.

Positions 5 and 7 are currently occupied by incumbents Shelley Sekula-Gibbs and Cindy Heiser, respectively, who are seeking re-election, and Ann Snyder is not seeking re-election to Position 6.

According to The Woodlands Township, filing does not ensure the candidate's application complies with state law and it does not guarantee the person will be listed on the Nov. 4 ballot.

The last day to register to vote is Oct. 6.

Early voting begins Oct. 20, and Election Day is Nov. 4.
