Conroe ISD held a public hearing Aug. 5 on the tax rate for its preliminary budget for fiscal year 2025-26. No members of the public commented on the budget during the hearing. A second hearing will be held Aug. 19.

What to know

Chief of Finance Karen Garza presented the tax rate and proposed FY 2025-26 budget at the Aug. 5 special meeting. The proposed tax rate of $0.9496 per $100 valuation is the same as the fiscal year 2024-25.

The FY 2025-26 budget includes $761.05 million in both projected estimated revenues and expenditures. CISD officials said the balanced budget was possible due to funding provided by House Bill 2, estimated at $41 million, as previously reported by Community Impact.

“As with any legislative year that always brings challenges as we're trying to project revenue for the upcoming year, as bills are making their way through the process in the legislature, we were working our way out of a deficit budget,” Garza said.

HB 2 will provide permanent raises for educators and support staff, overhaul how the state funds special education and set aside money for schools to spend on fixed costs, such as utilities and insurance, as previously reported by Community Impact.
