Conroe ISD's board of trustees approved new zoning boundaries for the Timber Mill feeder zone in a 7-0 vote at the July 15 meeting.

What to know

Assistant Superintendent of Operations Chris McCord presented the Attendance Boundary Committee’s recommendation for the attendance boundaries of the Timber Mill feeder zone.

“What will happen will be combined with efforts at McCullough [Middle School], Haley [Elementary] and Ford [Elementary] to add seats; we will go from 39 campuses overcapacity to 11 campuses overcapacity,” McCord told the board.

The attendance zones impacted by the change are:

Timber Mill High School (opening Aug. 2027)
  • 2700 North Loop 336 East, Conroe
  • Capacity: 3,800
Lynn Cartwright Junior High School (opening Aug. 2027)
  • FM 1314 North of Crighton/Creighton Rd, Conroe
  • Capacity: 1,600
Janene Fowler Intermediate School (opening Aug. 2026)

Some context

In 2024, the district established an Attendance Boundary Committee to study student growth in the affected areas and to make a recommendation for new attendance boundaries. Through the CISD website, the committee showed possible rezoning scenarios with map proposals for both of its new schools.

The maps have been made with community feedback on items such as:
  • Geographical location
  • Minimizing impact on families
  • Transportation patterns
The committee held presentations for the community before making the recommendation at various locations and online. McCord stated the recommendations from parents helped in making a decision at the July 15 meeting.
