CISD Chief Financial Officer Karen Garza previously made the 2025-26 recommendation at the June 24 meeting. Garza stated it was based on the money from House Bill 2 , which includes teacher retention and support staff allotments for the district for the 2025-26 school year of $19.6 million and $2.7 million, respectively.
Under the compensation plan, the salary increase for teachers is:
- $2,100 for first- and second-year teachers
- $2,500 for third- and fourth-year teachers
- $5,000 for fifth-year teachers and up
The district is also providing an additional contribution for veteran teachers of $300 for teachers with 5-9 years of experience, and $500 for teachers with 10 or more years of experience, according to the agenda packet.

- “I just want to re-emphasize that this is the largest single-year boost in Texas public education and history. I really want to thank our state legislators, Senator Brandon Creighton, who was a sponsor and had a direct role in negotiating for this,” trustee Lindsay Dawson said.
- “I want to just personally say thank you. You [Karen Garza] put in so many hours over the weekend just to make sure that we could pay our teachers with what they deserve, and then all of our staff that worked so hard," trustee Marianne Horton said.
- I wanted to thank Miss Paula Green and her HR team ... and also our payroll department. In order to get all this done by the September rollout, they're not only onboarding new employees, but they're also doing their new pay structures and all the new benefits changes, and that's a lot to do in this short time,” board President Misty Odenweller said.
