The Conroe ISD board of trustees approved the campus mascot and colors for two new schools at a regularly scheduled board meeting March 21.

The Christopher J. Hines Elementary School will be the Hines Huskies. Shellie Winkler, assistant superintendent for elementary schools, said over 256 students voted for the mascot. School colors will be navy blue, gray and yellow.

Community Impact previously reported the school was named after retired Deputy Superintendent Christopher J. Hines in June 2022. Hines Elementary is in the Grand Oaks High School feeder zone and is slated to open in August.

Trustees also approved the mascot and colors for Veterans Memorial Intermediate.

Veterans Memorial Intermediate students will be the eagles. Students voted for the eagles over the patriots. The school's colors will be red and blue.


According to a previous report by Community Impact, Veterans Memorial Intermediate school is being converted from the old junior high school in the Caney Creek High School feeder zone. The intermediate campus will open after the new junior high school. The intermediate school is slated to open in August.
