Owner Daniel Vengoechea said Ruah Cafe opened on FM 2978 March 19, serving items such as toast, crepes, specialty coffees, wine, smoothies and salads.

Toast options on the menu are inspired by different geographic locations, such as the Curacao featuring vanilla yogurt and fruit, and the Austin toast with pulled pork and orange BBQ sauce. The crepes are also regionally inspired such as Lyon with chicken and mushrooms, and the Osaka with smoked salmon, avocado and other ingredients.

A family affair

The cafe was founded by two families, Chávez and Vengoechea, who have lived in cities around the world, according to a news release. Executive Chef Angela Vengoechea created a menu based on world cuisine, inspired by locations including Barcelona, Cancún, Mumbai and Montreal.

The cafe's coffee is imported from locations like Ethiopia, Guatemala, and Colombia, and it is roasted locally in Houston, according to the cafe owners.

What's in a name

The name of the cafe, Ruah, means "spiritual breath" and reflects the Christian faith of the owners, Vengoechea said.

What's next

The cafe is also opening a location at 1219 Grand Central Parkway, Ste. 100, Conroe, in April.
