Work on the long-awaited Fire Station No. 5 rebuild in The Woodlands officially kicked off on Aug. 22 following a groundbreaking ceremony with The Woodlands Fire Department.

How we got here

According to previous Community Impact reporting, the township board approved $12 million to rebuild Fire Station No. 5 in January 2023, but multiple supply chain and weather delays pushed the projected start date back several times.

The board hired Brookstone Construction in July 2023 to begin drafting a construction plan and timeline, and approved additional funding as the project cost had risen to $14.5 million.

The timeline

Fire Chief Palmer Buck said the project would take around 14 months to complete, and Brookstone Construction would work to have the fire department operational by the end of 2025 pending any delays.

The new fire station will be located at 8001 McBeth Way, The Woodlands, and have 23,000-square-feet of space which will house TWFD and members of the Montgomery County Hospital District.

In their words

“This marks an incredible, crucial step in our ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety and well being of The Woodlands Township,” Ann Snyder, The Woodlands Township board of directors Chair, said at the ceremony. “That has been a priority over the years ... I'm going to reiterate this would not be possible without the collaboration and have always felt that is what makes good things happen.”

“I would express my thanks to the directors that preceded us and those staff who have been working on this for a very long time. It's very exciting, and we're very proud of the way things are going here in The Woodlands,” board member Kyle Watson said. “This fire station is going to be a symbol of the commitment of the township and the directors to public safety.”
