New census data released in December shows that the population of The Woodlands area and within Conroe ISD's boundaries has overall increased over the last five years.

In 2016, The Woodlands had a population of 108,373. In 2021, the population grew to 115,716—an increase of 7,343, or 6.35%, according to the five-year American Community Survey estimates released Dec. 8



However, the population actually declined in Oak Ridge North by 3.15% over that time, from 3,142 in 2016 to 3,043 in 2021.

Shenandoah’s population saw the highest growth rate, increasing by 20.81%, or 697 people, from 2,653 in 2016 to 3,350 in 2021.

The number of residents living within the boundaries of Conroe ISD increased by 14.1%, from 298,538 in 2016 to 347,511 in 2021. Neighboring districts Montgomery ISD and Willis ISD increased by 15.35% and 14.56%, respectively.




Changing ages

Meanwhile, five-year ACS estimates showed the median age of residents in The Woodlands and Shenandoah increased since 2016 while the median age of Oak Ridge North residents decreased during the same period.

The Woodlands’ median age grew from 39.7 to 40.4 years old. In Shenandoah, the median age jumped by nearly 15 years, from 46.9 years old to 60.6 years old. The median age of residents in Oak Ridge North decreased from 47.2 years old to 44.9 years old.
