Inspired by childhood shopping trips with her grandfather, Kristin Durski fulfilled a lifelong dream and opened her own boutique along with her husband, Dan Durski, in September 2024. The boutique, Monkee's, is part of a franchise established in 1955 nationwide; however, each location offers a unique selection and style of clothing, Kristin Durks said.

“At Monkee’s we believe in community and want to continue to hype up my girls and make [Monkee’s] a happy and faith-based environment,” Kristin Durski said.

What’s special about it

With a blend of contemporary and modern clothing ranging from $80-$450, Monkee’s of The Woodlands offers something for everyone, Kristin Durski said.

“Our mission is to make women feel their best at all ages,” she said.

Although Monkee’s vision lies in color and pattern, Durksi said she quickly realized people in The Woodlands had a taste for more high-end contemporary clothing. She describes the aesthetic of the boutique as traditional and elegant.

At Monkee’s of The Woodlands, customers can expect a wide selection of clothing coordinated by color and organized by size, with sizes running from extra-small to extra-large garments.

“One thing that our store does really well is put together an outfit,” Kristin Durski said.

With a focus on creating an intimate experience for each customer, Monkee’s specializes in customer service and styling.

What they offer

This season, Kristin Durski said Western chocolate brown is among the top trends seen emerging in the fashion industry. Other trends include plaid, blazers, loafers, wide-leg pants and Western boots as well as taller boots.

Popular brands carried include Allison New York, Paige Denim, Kerisma and Cleo Bella.

“We have an issue with people coming in athletic leisure wear, and they say, ‘Where can I wear this to?’ Or, you know, I don't have a place to wear this to.' And we remind them ...car line pickup, going to the grocery store and going out to eat with girlfriends. Just get dressed and take pride in yourself and how you present yourself.”

With the holiday season approaching, Kristin Durski said she has a wish list where customers can place boutique items they want along with their size information for their husbands or loved ones to select from.

As the boutique grows, Kristin Durski says she has developed partnerships with local nonprofits including Interfaith of The Woodlands, Memorial Hermann In the Pink of Health, the Canopy Cancer Survivorship Center at The Woodlands and the Montgomery County Women’s Center.

Through the partnerships, Kristin Durski said she donates inventory that it doesn't sell to organizations in need, and she hopes to partner with more local organizations and businesses in the near future.
