Reconstruction on Missouri City’s Cartwright Road to start in second quarter of 2026

Missouri City’s Cartwright Road will soon see the first of two reconstruction phases, officials announced at a March 26 public meeting.

What you need to know

The project will reconstruct roadway pavement and improve drainage along the corridor, stretching from Oyster Creek to West Baron Lane, said Robert McBride, project director at Lichliter/Jameson & Associates.

The project will also increase capacity and improve safety concerns at the FM 1092 intersection.

The details

McBride said the project will be split into two phases, with the first including construction from Oyster Creek to just east of FM 1092, and will include:

• Road reconstruction
• Replacing sidewalk
• Drain and sewage improvements for extra capacity due to the area’s flood history

Only one lane will be open in each direction during the first phase of construction, McBride said.

McBride said the project’s second phase will take on construction just east of FM 1092 and stretch to West Baron Lane, and will include:

• Adding both right- and left-turn lanes on the eastbound side
• Adding a right-turn lane on the westbound side
• Upgrading pedestrian ramps at the FM 1092 intersection

“I’m thrilled to have these new road construction projects, especially at major thoroughfares,” District C council member Joanna Ouderkirk said. “This is a critical juncture here with both police and fire, so we want to follow the project really closely.”

What’s next?

Bidding and construction for Phase 1 of the project will begin in the second quarter of 2026 and run through the second quarter of 2027, McBride said.

The second phase will begin bidding once construction is complete and is expected to finish at the end of 2027.
