In a nutshell
The $59.8 million facility will provide commuter services for Fort Bend County residents heading to the Texas Medical Center, according to a Jan. 30 METRO news release. Riders can also get to and from the facility by using METRO’s on-demand curbside service for those within the service area.
From the Texas Medical Center, riders can take the METRORail and bus service options to get to destinations across Houston, including Downtown Houston, METRO Director of Media Relations Lester Gretsch said in an email.
The big picture
The route will service the growing area, with the 1-mile area surrounding the Fort Bend Town Center development seeing a 24% population growth since the 2020 U.S. census, according to METRO data.
"As this community continues to grow, access to reliable transit will be increasingly more important," METRO board Chair Elizabeth Gonzalez Brock said in the release. "The new Missouri City Park & Ride expands mobility options, making it easier for commuters to connect to key destinations within METRO's service area."
The details
Located at 20525 Fort Bend Parkway Toll Road, Fresno, the facility is the anchor tenant in Phase III of mixed-use development Fort Bend Town Center, according to the release.
Site plans from NewQuest Properties, the center’s developer, show Phase III will feature 1 million square of retail space and multifamily housing from Sueba USA.
According to the release, the facility’s features include:
- 1,750 covered parking spaces
- A covered waiting area
The facility will replace the previous pick-up commuter location at the adjacent Kroger lot in Fort Bend Town Center’s first phase, METRO officials previously said. The 271 bus route is replaced with the new 270 route, according to the release.
Remember this?
Before beginning construction on the park and ride, METRO entered into a 40-year agreement with NewQuest. METRO paid the almost $60 million to build the parking garage and will pay $325,000 annual rent, Community Impact reported.
