Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital, 16655 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land, is slated for an upcoming $206 million expansion project.

Titled a “south expansion,” the project, which is scheduled to begin May 2 and last through Feb. 28, 2025, will add over 466,000 square feet to the 324-operating bed hospital, and when completed, it will expand and renovate across a number of areas—including an expanded and renovated loading dock, relocated support services and emergency department/surgical area, and new mechanical floors and conference rooms, according to a project permit submitted to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

In addition, the expansion project will add a new floor for the hospital’s intensive care unit and acute care as well as support services for that floor. Finally, the expansion project will add a roof with a helipad and trauma elevators to deliver patients to the emergency/surgery area, according to the permit.

The expansion project comes as Houston Methodist has several ongoing construction projects at its flagship hospital at the Texas Medical Center and at community hospitals throughout Houston, according to a Houston Methodist spokesperson.

Houston Methodist The Woodlands, for example, opened a new patient tower in mid-January, part of a $250 million expansion project that added over 100 new patient rooms, expanded the emergency department from 18 to 46 rooms and more. 281-274-7000. www.houstonmethodist.org/locations/sugar-land
