Missouri City will be on the hunt for a new city manager beginning in July.
What residents need to know
At a June 1 Missouri City City Council meeting, City Manager Angel Jones announced her July 10 departure from the city, citing she was moving to be closer to her family.
Jones, who became Missouri City’s 10th city manager in December 2022, thanked council members, staff, residents and other stakeholders as she concludes her service at Missouri City and said she believes the city's best days are ahead.
"Together, we have strengthened our organization, advanced key initiatives, enhanced public service and positioned this great city for success," Jones said at the meeting. "Missouri City has become more than a community to me—it has become a part of my extended family."
What they're saying
Several City Council members, including Mayor Pro Tem Lynn Clouser, thanked Jones for her service and everything she has helped do to move the city forward.
"You came here on a 7-0 vote, and that speaks volumes," Clouser said. "It doesn't happen all the times in cities but we knew when we interviewed you that you were the leader that we needed. You have been consistent, you have led this city and pushed this city forward. You've challenged us, you've challenged leadership to bring us to the point where we are today."
Additionally, council member Floyd Emery recalled the challenge in front of Jones upon her arrival and said she stepped up to the task.
"Missouri City is in a much better place—you've set some standards, you've set some goals and direction, and I thank you for that because [we] were at some point earlier kind of floundering around and we really didn't know what Missouri City was all about and what we wanted it to be," Emery said.
Mayor Robin Elackatt said the next city manager will have big shoes to fill.
"You took us to a playoff team," Elackatt said. "Moreso, put directors and leadership in this room that can carry on without silos to move this organization forward."
