Commissioners unanimously approved the ban at an Oct. 13 special meeting, making Fort Bend County one of the 121 counties across Texas to impose a burn ban, according to the Forest Service.
The state is currently at a Level 3 wildfire preparedness level, which means wildfire activity is impacting several regions of the state as a result of drought, dry vegetation or frequent fire weather events.
What else?
However, Fort Bend County Fire Marshal Justin Jurek said the burn ban will not impact the Diwali firework sale season, which started Oct. 13 and ends Oct. 23.
Looking ahead
The ban will last up to 90 days, until rescinded by commissioners or until the Forest Service determines drought conditions no longer exist, according to agenda documents.
