Sugar Land officials are seeking public input for a community art project coming this fall.

In a nutshell

The Sugar Land Civic Arts Division has partnered with Better Block, an international design nonprofit, to install temporary enhancements to the Brookside Belknap neighborhood, city officials announced in a May 30 news release. The project will be located at 119 Brooks St., Sugar Land.

The $134,750 partnership agreement was approved by Sugar Land City Council at a May 20 meeting.

Zooming in

According to the release, the project aims to inspire long-term area improvement by installing:
  • Seating
  • Art installations
  • Community gathering spaces
Better Block has previously completed projects in Dallas and San Antonio, officials said at the May 20 meeting.

Get involved

Sugar Land residents are encouraged to complete an online survey through June 22 to share preferences on what will be featured in the space, officials said in the release.

Additionally, the city will host its first community workshop June 18 at 6 p.m. at City Hall, located at 2700 Town Center Blvd., Sugar Land. The free public workshop aims to allow residents to learn more about the project, meet the team and share ideas to shape the future site’s design, city officials announced in a June 12 Facebook post.

Going forward

The space will open Sept. 26 and remain active for six months, according to the project website.
