Sugar Land residents can now receive supplemental assistance with pet food and supplies through a community-driven pet initiative.

What they offer

Sugar Land officials gathered June 4 to cut the ribbon on the city’s new Sugar Paws Pet Pantry aimed at helping residents keep their pets out of shelters during times of need. The pantry will offer pet supplies to those with financial need twice a month, said Katy Mock, senior animal services officer and pantry organizer.

“Our community has given so much to the shelter over the years, and it’s our chance to return the love by giving it back to those who need it most,” she said.

Mock said available supplies, include:
  • Pet food and treats
  • Toys and comfort items
  • Bedding and blankets
  • Hygiene and grooming supplies
The pantry is sponsored by Costco, Hollywood Feed and Pet Supplies Plus Telfair location, Mock said.

Going forward

The pantry will host distribution days for Sugar Land residents from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the second and fourth Sunday of each month, Mock said. An online request submission—which will share more about the pet's needs— is required prior to pickup.
