Missouri City residents are encouraged to complete the community engagement survey as city officials prepare to determine the city’s budget, City Manager Angel Jones said in a June 2 Facebook post.
"We are committed to engaging our community in the budget process," she said. "This year’s budget reflects our continued commitment to the strategic vision of the City Council and the priorities voice by you, our residents. I encourage you to take our community engagement survey, participate in the public hearings and share your insight."
The survey opened June 2 and will collect feedback through June 13, with residents providing input on:
- Priority rankings for services such as police, fire, streets, economic development and parks
- Property tax raises
- Effective ways to obtain feedback on the budget process, including town hall meeting and stakeholder budget committees
Looking back
In September, Missouri City City Council approved $242.98 million in expenses for the FY 2024-25 budget, a $28.28 million increase from FY 2023-24. The budget included city employee salary increases and funding for street improvements.
Additionally, council maintained its $0.570825 per $100 property valuation tax rate from FY 2023-24. The rate is above the no-new-revenue rate of $0.567354, which is the rate that would generate the same property tax revenue as the year prior.
This was the first budget under the city’s new program-based budgeting, which aims to increase transparency, provide accountability and encourage data-driven decisions, city officials previously said.
What’s next?
City Council is set to approve the city’s FY 2025-26 budget in September, officials said.
The new budget will begin Oct. 1.
