Fort Bend County has launched a new website to increase access to resources for small businesses.

The big picture

The website, called Fort Bend Helps, was launched May 21 by Fort Bend County Judge KP George to eliminate confusion and connect small businesses owners to the tools they need to succeed in the county, according to a May 19 news release. The county aims to attract new small business and improve longevity of businesses.

“Fort Bend Helps was born from listening to our small business community,” Fort Bend County Judge KP George said in the release video. “I kept hearing over and over the consensus during town halls and community meetings [that] finding reliable information, navigating permits or connecting with the right resources was always difficult.”

Zooming in

Community Engagement Specialist Hina Qadri said the platform aims to provide access to all county resources and partnerships in one place. Business information available includes:
  • Resources for starting a business
  • Permitting and registration instructions, including vendors and suppliers
  • Business counseling and advising
  • Financial resources
  • Chamber connections
  • Workshops and webinars
Other resources on the site include information on housing, community care, child care and disaster recovery.

Looking ahead

The website will be updated with new programs, events and resources to address community feedback, George said.

“Our goal is to make this a living evolving platform that grows with the needs of our business owners,” he said.
