Fort Bend County officials are looking to invest in the mental well-being of employees.

The gist

At a May 13 meeting, Fort Bend County commissioners approved creating the Fort Bend County Employee Mental Health and Behavioral Health Task Force aimed at providing mental health-related services to county employees.

“Fort Bend County Health and Human Services’ commitment is to promote and protect [the] health and well-being of not only the residents but also of our own staff,” said Dr. Letosha Gale-Lowe, director for Fort Bend County Health and Human Services.

According to agenda documents, the task force will:
  • Identify key strategies to provide mental and behavioral health services to county employees
  • Identify a comprehensive framework to implement services
  • Produce a set of guidelines and recommendations for implementing services and/or referral of services for employees
  • Engage with community stakeholders
  • Evaluate services already available to county employees

According to agenda documents, the committee—which will report to Commissioner’s Court—will be comprised of seven members from county departments including one person from:
  • The county judge’s office
  • The county attorney’s office
  • Behavioral health services
  • Health and human services
  • The sheriff’s office
  • Human resources
  • Risk management
The task force is expected to receive a $50,000 annual budget beginning in fiscal year 2025-26, according to agenda documents. The funds can be used for education, training, research, program development, stakeholder engagement and data collection tools.

The task force became effective May 13, officials said.
