The Fort Bend County Libraries system is celebrating its roots with library anniversaries.

The gist

Opened in November 1974, the Mamie George Branch Library in Stafford was one of the first two branches to open in the system, alongside the Albert George Branch Library in Needville, according to a Sept. 17 news release.

Per the release, milestones for the 4,900-square-foot Mamie George Branch Library include:
  • 1990: First renovation to the library
  • 2000: Business center moved from the Missouri City Branch
  • 2015: Addition of a makerspace for art and videography projects, including 3D printers
The Stafford library was funded by The George Foundation, and the site was donated by Fort Bend ISD, according to the release.

Dates to know




The library will celebrate its anniversary with an open house on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. with refreshments, activities and giveaways, according to the release.

Patrons will also be able to browse the library’s scrapbooks to share their own memories.

The Albert George Branch Library, located at 9230 Gene St., Needville, is also celebrating its 50th anniversary, according to the release.
