Missouri City Police Chief Brandon Harris will retire in January after a year in the role, the city announced in a Sept. 13 news release.

Harris took the helm in January after former Police Chief Mike Berezin retired in May 2022, Community Impact reported.

Harris’ retirement comes after he served more than 28 years for the Missouri City Police Department, joining the department in June 1996, according to the release.

The city will host a community farewell event in the coming months to celebrate Harris, according to the release.

Next, the city will collaborate with a consulting firm to recruit the chief candidates, with the city aiming to fill the role before Harris' retirement, a Missouri City spokesperson said in an email.

"The ideal candidate is someone defined by innovative thinking and a collaborative spirit, backed by substantial managerial experience in law enforcement, exemplary interpersonal competencies, and an unwavering commitment to customer service," the spokesperson said.
