The Sugar Land Branch Library is celebrating a milestone this August.

The overview

Opened in August 1999, the Sugar Land Branch Library was the final branch of the Fort Bend County Libraries System constructed with funds from the 1989 bond election, according to a July 17 news release.

The library, located at 550 Eldridge Road, Sugar Land, houses three permanent displays, including:
  • The Freedom Shrine: replicas of American historical documents such as the Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights and former President Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address
  • The Sugar Land History Wall: four-panel display with city history including community members of note
  • The Butterfly Garden: center atrium with native plants to attract butterflies
Dates to know

The library will celebrate its anniversary with an open house on Aug. 31 from 10 a.m.-noon featuring light refreshments and crafts, according to the release.

Additionally, participants will also be able to participate in a community art project by decorating an individual piece of a mural, which will be displayed in the library until the end of the year.
