Sugar Land officials are working to outline what the next couple of years will look like for the city.

The gist

At a July 16 meeting, Sugar Land City Council approved a $130,000 contract with Future iQ, Inc. for strategic planning consulting services.

Throughout the rest of the year, Future iQ, Inc. will partner with Sugar Land staff to create the city’s 2025-27 strategic plan, which aims to guide decision-making for operations and resource allocation from Jan. 1, 2025-Dec. 31, 2027, according to agenda documents.

Future iQ, Inc. will create an action plan for the city using a data-driven approach coupled with community engagement. Phases of the project include:
  • Phase 1 (July/August): initial planning and research
  • Phase 2 (August/September): stakeholder engagement
  • Phase 3 (October/November): plan development
  • Phase 4 (November/December): final plan and presentation

The city’s last strategic plan outlined objectives for 2024 with focuses on:
  • Redeveloping commercial and residential areas
  • Making data-driven decisions
  • Prioritizing future capital investments
  • Trailblazing organizational culture change

The city’s 2025-27 strategic plan is set to be finalized and approved by City Council mid-December, Communications Director Doug Adolph said in an email.
