Two candidates are vying in the Nov. 4 election for the Missouri City City Council District B seat.

The opening comes after council member Jeffrey L. Boney filed his run for mayor July 25, vacating his unexpired term on council, Community Impact reported. The winner will serve the remaining time in the unexpired term through November 2027.

Candidates were asked to fill out questions and answers from Community Impact. They were asked to keep responses under 50 words, answer the questions provided and avoid attacking opponents. Answers may have been edited or cut to adhere to those guidelines, or for style and clarity.

Why did you choose to run for the Missouri City City Council District B position?

Missouri City has offered me unique opportunities to thrive and grow. My mission is to ensure everyone can access these opportunities. With five years of appointed service, having recently advocated for redevelopment and expanded healthcare in the comprehensive plan update and collaboration with city leaders, I’m ready to serve.

What is your top priority if elected to represent the citizens of Missouri City?

Economic development is my main priority. If elected I’ll work with city council colleagues to attract innovative businesses, support local entrepreneurs, and encourage redevelopment along Texas Parkway. By diversifying our tax base and creating jobs, we’ll enhance opportunities and invest in key gateway areas for Missouri City’s future success.

What do you think is the most pressing issue for local residents, and what will you do to address it?

As Missouri City grows, we must invest in modern infrastructure and efficient mobility—reliable transit, road maintenance, broadband, and improved traffic management. These priorities are part of the city’s comprehensive plan, and I will continue to advocate for these critical investments to connect residents to greater opportunities.

With the comprehensive plan update underway, what do you believe is the most important outcome and plan forward for zoning regulations?

Having a clearly defined vision that guides where we are and where we want to go together as a city. This includes the use of tools like overlay districts so we can grow and redevelop in a way that benefits everyone no matter where they live in the city.

How do you plan to help grow the city’s economic development?

Balanced progress means investing in aging areas and supporting new development. I’ll work with the city manager to encourage small and mid-size businesses, promote established owners, and expand infrastructure. Diversifying revenue sources will reduce reliance on property taxes, which currently make up about 32% of the [fiscal year 2025-26] budget.

Why did you choose to run for the Missouri City City Council District B position?

I’m running for Missouri City Council District B to ensure every neighborhood has a strong voice. As a veteran, business owner, and community leader, I’ve seen residents’ challenges. I’ll bring disciplined leadership, fresh ideas, and collaboration to improve safety, services, and development while building a thriving future.

What is your top priority if elected to represent the citizens of Missouri City?

As a Missouri City councilmember for District B, my priority is giving residents a stronger voice in shaping growth and services. I’ll focus on infrastructure, public safety, and smart development, while ensuring accessible, responsive city services. With transparency and disciplined leadership, I’ll strengthen District B and Missouri City’s future.

What do you think is the most pressing issue for local residents, and what will you do to address it?

The most pressing issue is balancing rising living costs, especially property taxes, with quality services and growth. As District B councilmember, I’ll advocate for fair taxes, expand the commercial base, attract small businesses, and redevelop key corridors—easing burdens on homeowners while funding infrastructure, safety, and neighborhood improvements.

With the comprehensive plan update underway, what do you believe is the most important outcome and plan forward for zoning regulations?

Zoning consistency and clarity; protection of neighborhood character and adjacencies; design and form standards along corridors; procedural transparency and predictability; balancing growth and tax base without overburdening residents.

How do you plan to help grow the city’s economic development?

I will strengthen District B’s economy by attracting jobs and investment, supporting small and minority-owned businesses, and guiding smart redevelopment. My goal is to make Missouri City a premier destination for homeownership, entertainment, and vibrant living—appealing to young adults while upholding safety, quality, and community standards.
