Missouri City voters will have an extra seat to vote on in the Nov. 4 election.

What voters need to know

At an Aug. 4 meeting, Missouri City City Council approved calling a special election for the City Council District B seat. The additional seat opened after District B council member Jeffrey Boney filed his run for mayor July 25, vacating his unexpired term on council.

The mayor position is held by Robin Elackatt, who was sworn in as Missouri City’s 12th mayor in Dec. 2020. He filed for reelection July 21.

Digging in

The filing period for City Council District B opened Aug. 5, with a filing deadline of Sept. 3, according to the city’s website. The winner will serve the remaining time in the unexpired terms through November 2027.

Additional seats up for election include:
  • At-Large Position 1, held by Sonya Brown-Marshall
  • At-Large Position 2, held by Lynn Clouser
Both incumbents have filed for reelection with Brown-Marshall currently running unopposed and Clouser challenged by Bruce Zabrowski, who finished third—with 7.12% of the vote—for the District A seat in 2024.

The winners of the general elections will serve through November 2028.

What else?

Missouri City residents located in parts of the city’s extraterritorial jurisdiction could also see a ballot item to create a county assistance district to funds local infrastructure and services using sales tax. The district would include areas near Sienna and part of the city of Alvin's ETJ.

The item—which was previously set to be placed on the 2024 ballot—will need to be placed on the November ballot by commissioners by Aug. 18 to allow voters to determine whether the district will be created.

Going forward

The election will take place Nov. 4 with early voting running from Oct. 20-31, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s website. The last day to register to vote is Oct. 6.
