Two incumbents retained their seats and a new board member will be seated at Fort Bend ISD following the results of the May 6 election.

Position 1

Incumbent Angie Hanan received 9,850, or 58.19% of votes cast in the election, retaining her seat. Oscar Saenz received 7,077, or 41.81% of votes in the election.

Hanan did not immediately return a request for a comment after the election.


Position 4

Incumbent Shirley Rose-Gilliam received 8,565, or 51.84% of the vote, retaining her seat, and challenger Cheryl Anne Buford received 7,958, or 48.16% of the vote.

Rose-Gilliam could not immediately be reached for a comment after the election.

Postion 5


Sonya Jones received the most votes out of five candidates seeking the position, with 6,479 votes, or 39.39% of the total votes cast. Rolly U. Demeza received 753 votes, or 4.58% of the total; Allison Drew received 4,476 votes, or 27.21% of the total; Angel Hicks received 3,221 votes, 19.58% of the total votes cast; and Denetta R. Williams, the incumbent, received 1,519 votes, or 9.24% of votes.

Sherry Williams, director of strategic communications, said there will not be a runoff election despite the leading candidate receiving less than 50% of the total votes. The winner is the person who receives the most votes, she said.

A total of nine candidates are seeking three seats on the Fort Bend ISD board of trustees in the May 6 election.

Early and absentee voting results show the incumbents taking the lead in two of the three races on the ballot.

Position 1

Incumbent Angie Hanan and challenger Oscar Saenz are vying for the Position 1 seat on the board of trustees.


Early voting results show Hanan receiving 6,750, or 59.5% of early votes cast in the election. Saenz received 4,594, or 40.5% of early votes in the election.

Position 4

Cheryl Anne Buford and incumbent Shirley Rose-Gilliam are seeking the Position 4 seat on the board of trustees.

With early voting results in, Buford received 5,178, or 46.68% of the early votes cast. Rose-Gilliam received 5,914, or 53.32% of the early votes.


Position 5

Five candidates are seeking the Position 5 seat on the board of trustees.

In early voting and absentee results, Sonya Jones took the lead with 4,202 votes, or 38.07% of the total early votes cast. Rolly U. Demeza received 525 votes, or 4.76% of the total; Allison Drew received 3,006 votes, or 27.24% of the total; Angel Hicks received 2,216 votes, 20.08% of the total early votes cast; and Denetta R. Williams, the incumbent, received 1,088 votes, or 9.86% of early votes.
