Pappasitos Cantina’s first location at Richmond and Hillcroft will close Sept. 13.
What happened
The closure was announced by restaurant officials in late August, who said it was a difficult decision to close the original location known as Sito's #1 by staff.
“After careful consideration, we made this difficult decision based on the long-term outlook for this location,” said Christina Pappas, chief marketing officer with Pappas Restaurants. “We look forward to inviting our Sito's #1 guests to our nearby locations at Little Pappasitos on Kirby and Pappasitos Cantina at Memorial City.”
Pappasitos is known for its sizzling fajitas, margaritas, enchiladas, quesadillas and other Tex-Mex dishes.
Some background
Pappasitos opened its first location at Richmond and Hillcroft in 1983 and eventually expanded to 23 locations throughout Texas, with one in Georgia.
“This goodbye is especially meaningful because of what the restaurant represents to our family and our company,” Pappas said. “We are deeply grateful to the generations of team members who have worked here and to the guests who have made Pappasitos part of their celebrations, traditions and everyday lives.”

The restaurant’s final day of service will be Sept. 13. Officials said all team members at the closing location have been offered positions at other Pappas restaurants, and plans for the location following the restaurant closure are currently being evaluated. No final decisions have been made as of Sept. 1.
Officials also ask that customers “help us give Sito’s #1 the sendoff it deserves” by sharing memories at the closing location with them on the Pappasitos website.
