Fort Bend ISD officials have appointed Anthony Sanders as the new chief of police for the district’s police department, per an Aug. 4 district news release.

The move comes after former Chief of Police David Rider, who had served since 2010, left to fill the position for Katy ISD last February, Community Impact reported.

"I am honored to join [FBISD] and look forward to serving its students, families and staff," Sanders said in the release. "My focus will be on fostering trust, transparency and a culture of safety across the district."

The background

With over 20 years of law enforcement experience, Sanders’ career includes time as a field training officer, lieutenant, district captain and commander of a police academy, according to the release.

He most recently served as deputy chief of the Corpus Christi Police Department, where he led key operations in the department’s:
  • K-9 program
  • Crime prevention unit
  • METROCOM communications center
Sanders holds a bachelor’s and master’s in criminal justice from Excelsior College and Lamar University, respectively, per the release. He is also a graduate of the Senior Management Institute of Police and the Police FBI National Academy.

As chief, Sanders will oversee district-wide safety operations, coordinate with school and district leaders, and work alongside local law enforcement agencies to help maintain secure campuses and promote a safe learning environment, per the release.

"[FBISD] is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all students and staff," Superintendent Marc Smith said. "Chief Sander’s leadership, vision and safety-first mindset make him an outstanding addition to our team."
